Recent astronomical findings suggest that Earth — along with our galaxy and countless others — is enclosed within a massive cosmic bubble, stretching 2 billion light-years across. - When Mahā-Viṣṇu inhales, these universes are drawn back into Him. This marks the dissolution, or cosmic death, of creation.
Thus, creation and annihilation are not random accidents but part of an eternal cycle of divine respiration. Modern scientists describing our universe as a bubble align uncannily with this ancient description.
2. The Duration of One Breath of Mahā-Viṣṇu
The Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam (3.11.38–39) explains:
- One day of Brahmā = 1,000 catur-yugas (cosmic ages)
- One night of Brahmā = 1,000 catur-yugas
- Together, that’s 2,000 catur-yugas in one full day-night cycle.
Brahmā, the first created being, lives for 100 years, each year consisting of 360 such days. His entire lifespan equals 311.04 trillion human years.
And yet — that unimaginably vast span of time is still just one breath of Mahā-Viṣṇu.

When modern astronomers describe Earth as being inside a cosmic bubble, they unknowingly echo this timeless Vedic truth. According to the Vedas:
- One exhalation of Mahā-Viṣṇu = creation of universes (cosmic bubbles).
- One inhalation = annihilation, when all universes dissolve back into Him.
- The full duration between His inhalation and exhalation: 311 trillion 40 billion human years.
This is the complete life cycle of the cosmos.
