Is Keto Diet Suitable For Everyone: A Fad Or Is It A One Size Fits All Diet

As we are approaching the new year, let us look back and analyze a trend that was vogue in 2018 in food principality. Yes! you are right, the contemporary eating custom — the Keto diet, which is referred to as one of the “miracle diets”.

But is Keto better than any other diets for maintaining a high metabolism, fat loss and nourishing the body?

The ketogenic diet, or keto diet, is a low-carb, high-fat and high protein diet with intermittent long fasts which is somewhat like the Paleo diet, the Atkins diet, and other low-carb regimens. People who eat keto diet favor low-carb foods like meat, fish, eggs, veggies, and natural fats like olive oil, butter or ghee. They usually avoid sugar and high carb foods like bread, pasta, sweets, rice, soda, and potatoes.

Keto works because you’re cutting out a large calorie source and not putting anything back in its place. If you take out bread, potatoes, corn, sugar, cake, cookies, etc. and don’t eat other foods to replace what you took out, you create a caloric deficit. Sugar isn’t bad, and keto isn’t a cure-all. If you can adhere to and it helps you lose weight, then good for you. But it’s not ideal for everyone.

When you’re into Keto diet, you fast for long durations. There is no intake of food for a long period of time. As a result, your body starts using body’s reserved fats as a way of nurturing and sustaining itself. This type of fasting might not be ideal for people with a high metabolism or low blood pressure. You should always listen to the body and not push it to fast for longer periods. If at all you sustain during your Keto diet regime, you tend to put on fats very easily once you shun Keto diet ritual. It’s just like dancing. Once you stop practicing dancing, you tend to put on weight.

If you’re a type – one diabetic or have any other serious medical issues you absolutely should be under the close care of a doctor. You can consume grains and sugars on the rare occasion as your body needs natural carbs and sugar. Our body is a finely tuned machine. But if you think you can go back to cereal and sandwiches and donuts on the regular basis you will be in for a rude awakening. Keto is as such sustainable, it’s meat and vegetables mostly!!!

Anyone who follows this diet should talk to their doctors first. It is first, and foremost, a medical diet, and can have severe negative repercussions if they have underlying and/or undiagnosed outside issues. People with thyroid issues, especially, could be seriously harmed by this long term. Yes, it works to drop weight, but it is a medical tool that just happens to have that side effect and changing the way your body processes and burns energy. It might do some damage to the body.

Different goals need different approaches. Therapeutic macros vs weight loss macros. Sedentary vs active. Like any other diet, it works for some, and not for others. Keto is, therefore not one-size fits all.
